V8 Supercars Wilson Security Sandown 500 – The Pirtek Endurance Cup started today with the V8 Supercars on track for the Wilson Security Sandown 500 in Melbourne. The day would consist of three 30 minute practice sessions under clear blue skies to give co-drivers the chance to get up to speed with the Sandown circuit layout.

Practice 1

The first session was the only chance that the main drivers would have to test the setup of their cars before handing over to the co-drivers for the remaining two sessions.

The start of the session was relatively quiet, but by the end, Red Bull Racing Australia’s Jamie Whincup rose to the top of the timesheets with the fastest time. Pepsi Max Crew duo of Mark Winterbottom and Chaz Mostert once again continued to show their pace by setting the second and third fastest times for the session.

Practice 2

The second session gave the co-drivers the chance to test their limits and while there were a couple of excursions off the track, the session run without interruption.

Showing his currently form from the Dunlop V8 Supercars (DVS) series, Cameron Waters set the fastest time in Chaz Mostert’s No. 6 Pepsi Max Crew Ford Falcon.

Another DVS regular Chris Pither, ended the session second fastest in David Wall’s No. 34 Wilson Security GRM Volvo S60 while the second Pepsi Max Crew entry (No. 5 of Mark Winterbottom) was third fastest at the hands of Australian GT regular Steve Owen.

Practice 3

The third and final 30 minute practice session was completed without issue with the co-drivers starting to match the times set by the regular drivers by the end of the session.

The fastest of the session Steve Owen (Pepsi Max Crew) from teammate Cameron Waters. Marcos Ambrose was the third fastest at the end of the session in his Xbox back DJR Team Penske Ford Falcon.

Championship Coverage

V8 Supercars action continues on Saturday at Sandown Raceway, with qualifying and two short qualifying races before the 500 kilometre race on Sunday.
