V8 Supercars | ITM 500 Auckland Friday

New Zealand didn’t live up to reputation of being the land of the long white cloud, with sensational sunny skies, as the V8 Supercars action kicked off practice at Pukekohe Park, just outside of Auckland. It’s been 18 months since the V8 Supercars had made the trip over to New Zealand with previous events falling on the ANZAC weekend.

With freight limitations bringing equipment over, all teams were given one set of brand new Dunlop tyres to use for the two 1 hour practice sessions. This was to save teams using up valuable storage space to ship over several sets of used rubber.

Practice 1

The first practice session was quite uneventful with cars completing a lot of short runs, and spending a considerable amount of time in the pits in an effort to tune their cars to the famous bumps of Pukekohe circuit.

Nissan’s Michael Caruso (Nissan Motorsport) would end the session fastest with a 1:03.7229. Team mate James Moffat locked in 1:03.8498 for the second fastest time over Red Bull Racing Australia’s Craig Lowndes.

Practice 2

The second practice session of the day was interrupted by a Red Flag with just 8 minutes left to run when the Team BOC Holden Commodore of Jason Bright found the wall at Turn 3. Bright would manage to get the car back to the pits under its own power, but would take no further part in the session.
