V8 Supercars | Castrol Gold Coast 600 – Friday

The Gold Coast turned on the party atmosphere for the V8 Supercars for the final endurance race of the 2015 season. With the Pirtek Cup on the line this weekend, Drivers and Co-Drivers were testing the limits early in practice so as not to find the concrete wall later in the weekend when results were on the line.

Practice 1

Even though Scott Pye (No. 17 DJR Team Penske) was carrying a broken rib from Bathurst into this round, he managed to set the fastest time in the opening 30 minute practice session of the day.

Team mates Lee Holdsworth (No. 18 Walkinshaw Racing) and Tim Slade (No. 47 SuperCheap Auto Racing) finished the session second and third fastest.

Practice 2

The second practice session of the day for co-drivers had to be red flagged briefly when Oliver Gavin (No. 222 Repair Management Australian Racing) hit the wall in the first chicane. The car would limp back to the pits for repair but would take not further part in the session.

Chris Pither (No. 34 Wilson Security Racing) ended the session fastest for Volvo with Paul Dumbrell (No. 1 Red Bull Racing Australia) and Jack Perkins (No. 22 Holden Racing Team) representing Holden had the second and third fastest times.

Practice 3

The third practice session for the day was also for the co-drivers with Paul Dumbrell ending the session with the fastest time for Red Bull Racing Australia. Steve Owen showed improved pace for Prodrive Racing Australia, finishing in second fastest in the No. 5 Pepsi Max Crew Ford Falcon. Marcos Ambrose (No. 17 DJR Team Penske) started to match Scott Pye’s earlier setting the third fastest time.

Practice 4

The fourth final session had to be red flagged early when the curbs on the first chicane started to come apart. The session would resume after the section of curb had been replaced.

James Moffat (No. 99 Nissan Motorsport) ended the session with fastest time for Nissan, dropping into the 1:10’s for the first time this weekend. Shane Van Gisbergen (No. 97 Tekno Autosports) was also in the 1:10’s with the second fastest time. Craig Lowndes (No. 888 Red Bull Racing Australia) ended the session third fastest.

V8 Supercars action continues tomorrow on the Gold Coast with the first of two 300 kilometre races over the weekend.
