V8 Supercars News

While it was only a short break between rounds, there have been some changes to the series since Perth two weeks ago. With all the talk around the new tyres in Perth, V8 Supercars as a trial have offered teams an additional set of new Dunlop tyres for use during the two Friday practice sessions.

Teams are encouraged to use the additional set of tyres during practice as they have to be handed back to V8 Supercars at the end of the day.

The build up to the Pirtek Enduro Cup has also continued with a number of teams locking in their driver line ups. Prodrive Racing Australia confirmed their driver line up with development driver Cameron Waters stepping up to partner with reigning Bathurst 1000 champion, Chaz Mostert.

Steve Owen will again join Mark Winterbottom in the second Pepsi Max Crew car. While the Bottle-O Racing entry has the familiar combination of Dean Canto and partnering with David Reynolds.

In related news, Paul Morris who partnered Chaz Mostert in last year’s Bathurst victory has confirmed his retirement from top level V8 Supercar racing. Morris has decided thought to continue with the Development Series to help build up younger drivers.

With the popularity of V8 Supercars continuing to grow, a number of new sponsors have been attracted to the category with Jayco Caravan’s stepping up to sponsor the Nissan Altima of Todd Kelly for 2015.

The DJR / Penske Team has continued their sponsor rotation with the car now sporting Daikin and PPG branding for the Winton round.

V8 Supercars action starts tomorrow morning with first of two practice sessions.
