Nick Senior, Subaru Australia Managing Director, said: “The gap between passenger car sales and SUV sales in October was just 6112 – this time last year it was 14,282.

“It’s now inevitable SUVs will overtake passenger cars – most likely as soon as mid next year.

“Subaru, with its XV, Forester and Outback SUVs, is perfectly positioned to take advantage of this.

“Our national share is underlined by excellent performances in Tasmania (7.4 per cent), ACT (6.1 per cent) and South Australia (5.7 per cent).
