2015 Liqui-Moly Bathurst 12 Hour | Practice – Qualifying and the Allan Simonsen Trophy

MyDrive | 2015 Liqui-Moly Bathurst 12 Hour - Phoenix Racing has taken pole position for tomorrow’s Bathurst 12 hour, winning the Allan Simonsen trophy in the process. The 23 year old Blancpain endurance racer Laurens Vanthoor said “it’s an awesome moment to have pole here. Qualifying is only a small point but it is a good point to start”.

Behind the Audi will be the Lamborghini of JBS Racing, with Brisbane local David Russell behind the wheel. They will be followed by the R35 Nissan Motorsport NISMO GT-R that ended the qualifying session early after it was sent backwards into the wall at the cutting after a brake lock up.

First time entrants to the 12 hour, M-Sport Bentley have come away from today qualifying with 9th and 21st in their Continental GT3R’s.

When asked if they knew the layout of the circuit after today’s qualifying Steven Kane replied “ I don’t think we could say we know the track 100% yet, but I’m sure by the end of the race we’ll know it”

“Obviously we’ve only had one days testing to know where to find the time and know where to make the car quicker, but were learning and we’re getting quicker and feel that we are in a good position for the race” Kane continued.

Last year’s race winners Maranello Motorsport will not be back to defend after a collision with one of the Bamboo Racing Aston Martin Vantage’s which caused Tony D’Alberto to collect the wall near forest elbow during a practice session on Friday.

Maranello were in talks with AF Corse to use one of their spare Ferrari 458’s however that fell through resulting in them pulling out.
